The PS Vita is a brilliant handheld gaming console, certainly the most powerful and graphically impressive handheld we'd seen before the Nintendo Switch bulldozed its way onto the scene. It can even be used to stream games from your PS4. Hardcore gamers with cash to spend should feel confident in snapping this monster up and fire up some of the big launch games with great haste.

For anyone else, it's a case of working out if you think it's worth it. If you just want to play 99p puzzle games, by all means, stick to your mobile phone or tablet — but they won't be able to do everything the Vita can.

Log In. I would say it's most similar to a Switch display in quality. And unlike the Switch, the Vita has Bluetooth support. The Vita also comes in a slew of nifty colors. Sure, the colored variants are in Japanese units, but that won't pose a problem for American gamers. My blue PS Vita was very easy to set up in English.

PS4 vs. Xbox One. Other than that, all the buttons feel responsive and clicky. The sticks are small, and feel most similar to the Switch's joy-cons, and the touch screen is responsive.

OK, Christmas is coming. The Vita is a great way to escape from your little cousins asking if you want to a lick of their candy cane, so you can dive back into the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Yes, remote play does work on PC as well, but that requires you to bring your controller and a USB cable along. Who wants to deal with that mess? But, the Vita does have some neat features that are well worth exploring. It has remote play functionality with both the PS3 and PS4 but oddly not the PS5 , meaning that you can stream your console PlayStation games to your system!

On the topic of the Nintendo Switch, though, Vita homebrew fans have made Switch-like docks for the Vita. While the Switch has bigger screens than the Vita and those nifty detachable Joy-Con controllers, the Vita is just more comfortable to me. Plus, the collector deep inside me still likes having it around for the sake of playing exclusive indies!

Just know that through modding all things are possible, so jot that down. The PS Vita is most certainly not for everyone. There are some incredible games, but many of the heavy hitters are now available on more easily available platforms.
